Well today marks 2 months exactly since I had my Weight Loss Surgery. As of this am I am offically down a total of 46 lbs since I first saw the surgeon. From Surgery day I'm down 37 lbs.

I see such a difference in the way my jaw line looks and the way my clothes are fitting. I can't wait to see how much I'm down next month when I see the Surgeon again.

I'll post some pictures later today.

About a year ago my neice gave me a hat that simply said Woot! on it. I've worn it many times and today someone finally commented about it and asked if I'd ever been to the website. Hmmm Website? never thought to try and find a website for the hat. Nothing on the hat indicates that there is a website for it.....So tonight I thought I'd see what it was.

woot.com is basically a website that sells 1 item a day at a discounted amount. today's item sold out in just over 8 hours.

Guess I'm gonna be checking it out daily to see if there is something I just can't live without!!!!

I weigh 224 as of this am, so that means i've lost a total of 41 lbs from my highest weight....when i get down to 211 I will no longer be morbidly obese, I will only be obese....I'm so excited, that's only 13 more lbs.

Sorry for the delay in making any posts....As you can see from the ticker above I have lost just about 38 lbs from my highest weight. as of wednesday this week (i weight weekly on monday's but was out of town and wednesday was the first am i was at home) i'm weighing in at 227, but as of this am i'm back up to 330.5....not sure what's up with that, granted thursday i went to the movies and had some pretzel bites (no salt, no butter just cheese) and then friday at work we had a pot luck and i make my world famous cheesey potatoes....but i made it with all low fat and no fat ingredients so i could enjoy them too....i know i ate too much but damn they were goooooooooood....

As for my exercising, i've been getting in about 1.2 miles daily at work....it takes me about 30 min with a break or 2 along the way....and i do the walk 3 to 4 times during the work week.

I went on a plane trip last weekend and was able to have the tray down all the way, it was still tight, but i had the tray down all the way that was the best.

Well that's all for now.

I has surgery on monday 4-17 at 10 am, i don't recall much of monday except that i did hurt some where the tummy was transected, and i was drugged most of the day...at 6 pm i got up to go potty and that is when they started giving me the liquid loratab. I got up one other time to walk monday night. They were concerned because my heart rate was fast but by tuesday it had dropped into the 90's. Tuesday doc came to visit me in the morning and asked how i was doing, told him i was feeling okay just a little pain in the tummy area still, he told me they were going to treat me as if i was at home and see how i did. When he came to visit at 5 pm he asked if i wanted to go home, i said that would be nice but i had to wait for my ride at 7:30...which was no problem for him. I see him again in 2 weeks for my follow up.

Last night i went to bed around 10:00 pm and slept until 5 am, so i went for 10 hours between pain meds. Right now i'm feeling okay and i'm not going to take the loratab.

My starting weight at my inital consult was 265 day of surgery was 253. we'll see how well i do losing the weight.

Tomorrow's the day

Well, here we are, one day away....it's about 1 am on sunday and i've yet to go to bed .... so technically i have 2 wake up's to go....My surgery is scheduled for 10:30 am on monday, I have to be at the hospital at 8:00 but my dad will be dropping me off (he wasn't able to get time off to be with me, but it's okay) before he goes to work, he works at 6:30 so i'll be at the hospital around 5:30 am. It's all good though, cause what if the first surgery person chicken's out and I could have gone sooner? well I want to be there to be ready just in case.

Today, well i mean saturday, I went and got a pedicure and manicure, i know they will probably take the polish off my fingers but it was my way to do something stress free....and for dinner i went to my fave steak place, I LOVE steak and am gonna miss it until I can have it again.

I am currently on liquid only, but I am hoping I will do okay. Well I should end this and head to bed, i have to get up around 9 am so I can drive home (i'm visiting my sister for the weekend since she had to work and couldn't come see me before I had surgery.)

Sorry for the delay in posting, but I was given a surgery date of April 24th then just last week I was able to get the date moved up a week to the 17th.

I'm excited and can't wait to get on the 'other side' as it were.

I had my 37th birthday on March 15th and that weekend went and bought myself a bicycle and have been able to get in rides where as with walking I couldn't go very far, each time I've ridden I've tried to increase the distance.

So as of today I only have 16 days to go.

Approval

Well, last week I was told by my surgeon's office that I had been approved for my wls, but having been told that before, I hate to wait until I got the offical word. Well today I got THE LETTER, it's official, i'm approved for surgery, my date is April 24th. I'm excited, I only have 42 days to go. I have my pre-op appointment on 4-6 which is only 23 days away. Since jan 25th I have gained 7 lbs (difference from pcp's scale and surgeon's scal) so I have to loose at LEAST that much, if not more. One of my co-workers is a great support, we used to walk together tuesday - friday but we became lazy, so starting today we kicked up our walking program. We are now going to be walking during our morning break, our lunch and our afternoon break. Two short breaks will just be from out office building down to the dispatch building and back, today we did the afternoon run...then our lunch break will be a longer walk... I've also cut out all junk food, and will be purchasing a bike later this week to start ... I have also started to use fit day to track my intake.

Saw Gallagher last night and it was an awesome show, for those of you who don't know who Gallagher is go to his website, www.gallaghersmash.com . I was not sitting in the smash zone, but he was so wonderful as to have thought of those of us who wanted to stay dry and clean to bring WATER balloons and proceeded to toss them up into the higher up area's and get select people nice and wet, and as you can imagine, I was one of the lucky ones. I was soaked from head to toe for the entire show. But it was worth it.

As for my Flu, I am almost all over it, just have one more dose of Tamiflu to take, miracle drug Tamiflu is. All I have left is the annoying cough and some traces of the runny nose, but otherwise I'm back to good health.

Hey Melly, here are two posts for you, yet no reply to the first one? and you call yourself my friend hehehehe, picking on me cause i haven't updated my blog, well what if my life is so boring i have nothing to blog about?

I am still working towards losing weight and have one more visit with the nutritionist on the 20th of this month for my final visit for a dr supervised diet. I also see the surgeon on the 25th to resubmit my paperwork for surgery. Hoping i'll have surgery around the begining of march. should have a date by the end of this month. Keep your fingers crossed.

I had applied for a job in the billing department of my work, but did not get the position, so now i have applied for a position with the operations department as an operations specialist which is basically data entry/admin support for the supervisors of the drivers. keeping my fingers crossed on this new position.

New Year New Flu

Nothing like starting the new year out with the flu. Went to work on Tuesday and around 2 asked the boss if I could leave at 3 since I wasn't feeling too good, and she siad check with me at 3, Checked at 3 and she said could you stay until 4, so I agree'd to stay until 4....on the drive home called the doc's office for the third time to make an appointment...finally was able to make on for thursday. By the time I was able to see the doc I felt that I didnt just have a bad head/chest cold but i had the full blown flu....doc gave me some Tamiflu and told me to stay home from work for the rest of the week which i had been ...but i woke up today feeling much better....should be okay to go back to work on monday

A laptop for a mere $199.99.....YES it was true...Circuit City had them in thier Black Friday ads and who do you think is crazy enough to camp out for over 10 hours to get one????!!!! If you guess'ed me, you'd be right!!

How can you pass up a toshiba satellite laptop with 512 ram and 60gb hd, with wireless installed...that's right installed, no need to carry a wireless card, it's built in baby.

Well I love my new laptop...the only thing i need is the laptop mouse and number pad and i'll be set. You never realize how much you use the number pad until it's gone.

As anyone who reads my blog knows, I've been MIA for a couple months. Basically it started in March when I decided to start looking into having Gastric-bypass surgery (wls). I started a blog/journal at www.obesityhelp.com (OH)but have decided to move all those messaged over to here. I will reference this blog on that page, but any posts that I put there, will be copied here as well. but not vice versa.

I know many people have different feelings on wls but this is what I feel is best for me, and I have researched this and weighed all the pro's and con's of doing this.

I value everyone's opinion, that just doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

WLS 12

Well I saw the nutritionist on Friday for my 1st monthly visit of 6 months and I gained 3 lbs...I was doing so well. from May 25th until July 29th I had lost 13 lbs, but this month gained 3 so back to 10 lost.

I have been really watching what I'm eating since Friday and hope I am doing better. I am going to start walking on Sunday nights as well as the 4 days a week at work that I walk with a co-worker.

Promised I would go up to 5 days a week.

Right now I still can't walk more that 20 min due to my back hurting too much. But I'm hoping to be able to increase that to 30 min soon.

I was given some Isopure to try but have been too chicken to open it. LOL it has 40 grams of protein per bottle but I've heard people mention having the feeling of a 'film coating' in their mouth, and you can actually see 'flakes' of protein in the liquid.

One problem I am having is that my surgeon says to be on a 1000 cal diet with eating protein first, then veggies then etc etc...but the nutritionist wants me on the ADA diabetic diet at either 1000 or 1200 cal. and she says only 4 oz of meat per day. just seems a little low to me.

Well that's all I have to update today.

Well I got the news that the nurse at Dr V's office was incorrect, I have not been approved, infact I have been denied due to the 6 month supervised diet...so I'm starting that with my pcp tomorrow...so now it looks like surgery will be in december or january, just hoping work doesn't add an exclusion to the insurance between now and then

Well I got "the" call today!!! I have a surgery date of 9-12-05!!!! I am so excited!!! Per Chris at Dr. V's office I am already approved!!! However, I know not to get too excited until I see it in writing!!!

I was reading the main page and wrote the following post there and wanted to post it here and elaborate some on it, feel free to email me regarding it or not...up to you

I guess I've been pretty lucky, the only negative I've had is my skinny boss (who has put on some weight since she started at my work in Jan).

I had talked to my mom who was an LVN and Insurance Case Manager (before she had 2 strokes) about 2 years ago about surgery and earlier this year it was she who brought it up to me...in fact she said that she was very concerned about my heath and I either needed to loose weight thru diet or have surgery (i know that i have to 'diet' per se after surgery but you know what i mean)

Both of my parents are supportive, my sister, my 15 yr old neice, and all co-workers (even the boss came around) have been very supportive. My Dr requires pre-surgery weight loss and everyone is supportive of me asking me how much i've lost etc....the only thing that does bother me is if I even LOOK towards something i shouldn't eat one person says 'you CAN'T have that" grrrr I know they are being supportive but GRRRR it's my choice you know....and most the time I'm just looking...not actually going to eat it.

Now I know that even looking at 'sweets' or things we are supposed to be cutting out are things I shouldn't be thinking about and some will flame me and say that I'm not ready for surgery etc. but how does anyone online know what total frame of mind someone else is who they don't truly know? I know that after surgery even getting a taste of something I shouldn't have MAY cause dumping.

But on the other hand, while I haven't totally given up the sweets, my first step was to give up my diet coke/pepsi (i didn't care which brand as long as it was on sale and diet) but when I saw the Dr in May I was drinking anywhere from 6 to 8 soda's aday, but I have cut soda's out completely since then and only drink sf kool-aid and ice cold water (really hard for me to drink warm water) LOL I even take the 'to go'pouchs with me to the movies to pour into my bottle water.

One thing I can say is that I have REALLY cut back on my 'sweet/junk) in take has gone down. And in due time they will be all gone.

Saw Dr V yesterday, and he told me that my fasting blood sugar was high (122 - pre diabetic) so he is going to list that as a co-morb....he asked me "do you still want to do this" I was thinking Duh I'm here...but I said, "yes I do"

So now the waiting game starts to see what happens with the insurance. I'll keep you all informed

Had my psyche eval today, it went good, and Dr H told me she thought I was a good canidate for surgery. That made me very happy. She did tell me she thought I should do water exercises since my back tends to hurt from walking much. She told me she would have my report to Dr V in a few days. She doesn't take insurance so I had to pay $250 (150 for the 'chat' and 100 for the report)

I have been starting to get worried about the 6 month supervised diet that Cigna (insurance) makes everyone do, so I went into Dr V's office on Tuesday (6-28-05) and had them weigh me and note it in my chart, my offical loss to that point was 9 lbs. That makes me happy!!!

At work a couple of my co-workers and I are going to start walking during our lunch breaks next week. So that should help some too. Dr V has never told me a certain amount of walking he wants done, but Dr Frye (in Fresno) wants his patients walking up to 2 miles a day by surgery day.

Well I'm off to spend the day with my neice, we are going to the Hilmar Cheese Factory for a tour on how they make cheese, should be fun. I hope she enjoy's it as well.

Well today is 1 month since I had my consult, and as of this am I am down 10 lbs. Only need 16 more before surgery.WOOHOO. One of my co-workers is going to have surgery with Dr Frye in Fresno (I'm using Dr Vierra in Monterey) and she and I are going to start walking at lunch every day ( well starting the 5th - I'm off the 1st and we don't have the same lunch time right now) so that we will both be ready for our surgeries.

I'm doing pretty well since I had the three teeth pulled last week, finally no more pain.

I was in Modesto this weekend visiting my sister and went and saw a few OH buddies from the CA board at a picnic. It's always nice to get tips from the post ops.

Well it's 11 pm so I should head to bed, have to get up in 7 hours for work, gotta love monday's

Well today I saw the nutrionist, she seems pleased with most of my food choices, but I need to lower my fat intake. she gave me some good idea's on how to do this, such as instead of using salad dressing, I should use vinegar.

I used to NOT be a dressing user, but about 3 years ago tried a ceasar salad and LOVED IT!!! so that's what i use now.

Another option she said was to put the dressing on the side and dip the fork in it (learned that at WW but wasn't doing it)

Also as part of my daily breakfast I have been having a hard boiled egg with a small amount of mayo (low fat) and a stick of string cheese, and she indicated I should cut the cheese back to every other day.

I feel the visit went well and am sure she is going to give me the go-ahead to have surgery.

As far as my weight loss, on the 25th of May (consult) i weighed in at 265 and today (just over 3 weeks later) i weighed in at 257 WOOHOO that's 8 lbs in 3 weeks, i have just under 4 weeks until I see the surgeon again, hoping to be down another 8 lbs by then so that I will only have to loose 10 more to have surgery!!!

Well, I had 3 teeth pulled today so I need to get off here and go rest some (no pain-vicodin works wonders don't it!!!)

Saw the surgeon today and I am on my way now. I need to do the standard tests as everyone else, blood work, ekg, dietary consult, and psyche consult.

Gonna call tomorrow and get those scheduled as soon as I can, then I'll go on Friday (off that day to go to see my baseball team (Padre's) play in San Fran vs the Giants) to get all my blood work done.

Doctor told me that because my weight is all in the front that I will difficult to perform surgery on, and he wants me to loose 10% so in my case that will be 26.5 lbs. I wish I could say I started tonight, but we had potatoes and salsbury steak (frozen in gravy). But I did buy some oranges and will officially start my weight loss tomorrow evening (having a pot luck at work tomorrow at work for memorial day).

I am excited to start the ball rolling, but my main concern is Cigna denying my claim due to the 6 month supervised diet and then having them put in an exclusion barring wls in the future....I know, not something I really need to worry about but it is still a concern.

Official starting weight is 265, when I got home, I adjusted our scale to 'match' the doctor's scale. my height is 5'1" so that gives me a bmi of 50.1.

Well I went to Dr V's mandatory lecture on Wednesday and the room was pretty full, some people smaller than me, some the same size and others quite larger.
My mom went with me and it was a very educational lecture.

When I got home I started reading the packet of info that they gave us and have already got most of it filled out, I do need to do my 7 day food diary for my appointment with Dr V but I have three weeks to get that done, I know 3 weeks isn't that long, so I am going to start my food Diary on monday.

I also have my consult scheduled for May 25th. They offered me a late morning appointment on the 19th but I was concerned with getting to work 'on time'.

I have a co-worker who also went to the same lecture but it doesn't seem to me that she is 'serious' at this time, she just seems so relaxed and says I'll get to it later. I'm like, I'm ready to make this step, in fact I called the doctor's office once on Thursday, and was told that the scheduler would call me Friday afternoon, so I tried to call her on friday during my lunch (I go to lunch around 1:30 - 1:45) but was again told, the scheduler calls patients on Friday afternoons. So I waited until 4:45 and then I called again, this time they let me speak with the Scheduler and I was able to make that appointment.

So now the wheels are turning, I am seeing some progress, and am excited to meet with Dr. V. I did ask the Scheduler if I needed to set up any appointments with the nutritionist or others and she said, no to wait until after my first consult with Dr. V.

Well that's all for now, I'm not sure if I will update anymore before my consult, but for sure will update this page after my consult.....Until then....

Nothing new to really report, just been reading the boards and reading lots of profiles, seeing the success and tribulations that people have gone thru to get heathly. On Wednesday this week (4/20) I will be going to the educational seminar that Dr V. hold prior to doing any consults.

I went to see my PCP this last week and from when I saw her 3 weeks ago I gained a pound and was a tad discouraged as I've been trying to watch what I'm eating but not making an effort to loose until after I have my consult. (I want any loss to 'count'). I know that's not the attitude to have but for me it's the best I can do right now. So right now my goal is to maintain where I'm at and if I do loose all

Well after I go to the seminar on Wednesday, I'll come and post here with an update of where things are standing.

Well here is my first post, I got the call from my PCP's office yesterday that they had faxed over my referral to Dr. Vierra's office and I should hear from Dr Vierra's office within the next day or two. Well today I got that call.

So now I have to go to the Lecture that Dr. V requires potential patients to go to prior to having their first appointment with him. The next Lecture is on 4-20-05 so I will going to that with my mom and hopfully I can get my dad to go to so they will both know what is instore for me if I get approved by Dr. V.

I have been trying to loose weight on and off since 1993...in March of 1993 a coworker of mine came up to me and said, I hope I don't offend you, but so-and-so and I go to WW and I thought maybe you'd like to go with us. So I went, and my high at that time was 208, in 4 months I was able to lose right around 20 lbs. I was able to mantain that for just over a year...including moving 1500 miles from my family to go off to college. During the summer of 1994 I got an infection and the doctor put me on prednezone and with in 5 days I was back over 200 lbs. I was never able to get that weight off and stayed steady at right around 225 from 1994 until I got pneounia in 1998. At that time I lost 10 to 15 lbs but as soon as my apitite came back you know what happened....yup, those 10 to 15 lbs came back. but I was very steady at 225. In july of 2000 I started working at a job where I was a manager of a small retail store and I was working 43 hours a week over 6 days. I worked 5 days 5.5 hours and 1 day of 11 hours. On those days that I worked 5.5 hours I didn't eat lunch, I would go in at 9 am, work until 3:30 and then go home, and an hour or so later it was time for dinner. So during that time i was able to get my weight down to 205. But shortly after 9/11/01 I changed jobs to the one I currently have .... yup, sit on my tush all day and talk on the phone -- yeah i know a dream job if it wasn't for the customers calling and cussing us out for something the field people were doing -- but my weight went up up up up and then stabled at 245-250 for about a year. Then two years ago my mom had a stroke and I knew I had to do something to make sure 'that wasn't gonna happen to me' and I started the South Beach Diet in August of 2003. At that time I was at 249 and I was able to get my weight down to about 217 by Novemeber. But then I started eating carbs again and well, by now you see the pattern, up up up went the weight and now i'm at 264 as of my PCP's scale on 3-28-05.

I had to go see her for a spot of cellulitus. I have been getting these 'infections' since 1993 before I went off to college. The first time was such a scare for me as my first thought when i felt the 'lump' was breast cancer, but it turned out just to be a pimple that had turned and gotten infected, onto normal antibiotics for a week and it was gone, over the last 11 years I tended to average 1 to 2 times a year of the cellulitus. But this past Feb I started to do Enbrel shots 2x a week due to psorisas (which started when i was 18) and mid march I got three different spots of cellulits (the enbrel makes your immune system shot - you can get infections very easily) and I did 1 week of antibiotics then was off them for about 4 days and got a NEW and BIGGER spot of cellulitus on my leg that was HUGH so I went to the doc on the 28th of march and got that 'drain'ed and am currently on antibiotics for that and then go back and see her on the 13th. ...my spots have all but cleared up so all is well on the front but losing the weight will help the psorisas not be so bad and the cellulitus as well.

Well, this is a lot more than I intended to write at this time but I have enjoy'ed reading everyone else's boards and hope to keep mine updated quite often.

I know I'm a slaker people, but ummmm what can I say......there's not much going on in my life, i mean do you really want to hear about how i do enbrel shots 2x a week so that you won't see my psriosis, or that i had to go help my sister pick out a new pc (and now i have to take it back to have the sound card looked at), or do you want to hear that i got my nails filled and this time i got pretty heart sparkles (glitter and hearts) that are INSIDE the acrylic not just some nail paint.

I will tell you that Melly is so great....she sent me a gift certficate for amazon.com and i bought a cargo net for my truck....it may not seem like a 'birthday' type of item but i've had my truck for right around 18 months and i have only bought little things for it such as air freshners and a few bumper stickers that are actually in the windows....one from the radio station and 2 from my college ... I have another to put on the window too but need to wash the truck first....the new one is from my vacation and it says TCB and has a lighting bolt on it.......i challenage anyone to tell me what it means....if you do i'll send you a coaster (drink coaster) with the logo on it.

I was going to post a trackback to Dana's page regarding our library's that are on schedule to close this spring due to lack of funding, but she lost alot of her blog at the begining of this year.

But the reason I was going to do the trackback is because right know we are having the AT&T golf tournement. and yesterday they had the Celebrity Skins game and during the day Bill Murray won aroudn $25,000 and he decided to donate it the 'fund' raising project that our mayor announced earlier this week.
I ASSUME the Bill Murray has a home out here in this area as he plays here at the AT&T yearly and I think it's great that he is giving away something that he 'won/earned'.

Mid-Vacation

Just wanted to post a mid-vacation update….things have been going great. tonight went to my first ever hockey game….hockey you say? aren’t they on lockout??? well the nhl is, but not the minors…. the local team lost tonight but it was still a fun eventing….. today is the first day in about 4 that is was above 30 outside, it had been bone chilly here….first day here it was in the 40’s mid to upper and very little wind, so we did some lawn work…yes that’s right, i’m on vacation 2000 miles from home, and i did lawn work!!! it was nice being able to help someone with something they have been dreading doing…..because it was a daunting task…basically we trimmed 6 to 10 bushes in front of the house that were blocking the window’s….and now, there are just the main parts of the bushes, no leaves left at all…. We did some site seeing, went to a fire muesum, and a police muesum, even went to see the house that the founder of Piggly Wiggly started to build but never lived in…..for those of you who don’t know what a Piggly Wiggly is, it is the FIRST ‘modern’ style grocery store. Before the Piggly Wiggly, you would go to the general store and tell a clerk what you needed and they would get it for you. …. Well, we are getting ready to leave where the computers are, so I’m going to ahead and end this mid-vacation updated. Take care and I’ll be sure to post more when I get home next week sometime.

I know I have been fairly quiet since the end of the Christmas Challenge, but I just haven’t had much to talk about…. but I thought I would try this feature to see if it actually works.

I will be flying out on Friday at 12:40 and ariving in Memphis ( I KNOW, not Graceland) for a nice relaxing 10 night trip. I have to say that I was just as fooled as the next guy by the ‘Turn my lights on and off over the net’ thing. but the other day, I was looking at his page, seeing here HIS normal pictures were coming from and i just didn’t get where he was putting the webcam for the christmas lights….I mean, Look at the ‘grass growing’ and you can see that there is nothing ‘out there’ to put a webcam up on…but then, I thought, naw, he’s gotta have SOME way to put that webcam up, so I just chalked it up to me being skepitcal….but it turns out that it WAS a hoax….boy am I glad that I never got around to posting a link to his page on my blog……I have to say that I was one of the many who, I’m sure, are ANGRY about being duped…but in the end, I’d have to say I’m more angry that I didn’t think of it first LOL

I get up between 6:30 and 6:45 to be at work by 8 am….I do my showers at night and then lay out my clothes for the next day, so that in the am I’m not stressing over what to wear.

I Think that is is the name of it...I heard it last year for the first time and pretty much fell in love with the song

Have you had time to do any Christmas baking? What is your favorite Christmas-time cookie or sweet?

I havne't done any Christmas Baking yet, but that is what I'll be doing tomorrow night after work. I'll be making a cake and fudge to take to work for our Christmas office party/ornament exchange.

True, if I DID love you, then yes I would come and put MY health at risk less than 24 days before my vacation... A vacation mind you that I have to FLY to get to......so as much as I DO love you Dear Sister, I will not get myself sick.....

But I will come see you this weekend, or is that I will come go with you to see My neice? heheheh

I was driving down the road yesterday I remembered a Christmas from when my niece was about 3 years old. We were living in San Diego, CA and had just taken Holly to see the ‘Candy Cane lane’ near where we lived. As we were heading home wesaw a young man standing at a payphone ( I know most people don’t REMEMBER payphones anymore but I degress….) and I had to pull over and roll down my window and told him “Santa, we are on our way home to put Holly to bed, she has been waiting all year for you to come” this young man, smiled at Holly and told her he was proud that she had been so good this year and that she needed to get right to bed so that he could bring her the toys he had for her, he then did that standard Ho Ho Ho that all Santa’s do and as he turned away, I told him Thank You and he nodded and went back to his phone call. We laughed about it the whole way home but would you believe Holly went right off to bed, cause she KNEW that Santa had lots of kids to deliver toys to.

What is the favorite Christmas present you’ve bought for someone else and why?

Hmmmm this is a tough question….I’m going to have to go with the gift I’m giving my neice this christmas. Normally I can’t ‘afford’ what she wants but this year she asked for simpler things. Such as a book of Edgar Allen Poe works….I asked her…which E.A.P. did she want and her 15 yr old response was ‘the bird one’ yes I did laugh out loud at that and asked if she meant The Raven, she said yeah that one LOL

So I bought a book that is over 1000 pages of E.A.P works (it says it’s the complete works of E.A.P.) so I am pretty sure she is going to be enjoying it greatly.

Last night I had to be sneaky and log onto sis's blog and fix it for her.....*G* one of her posts has alot of **************************** and it was making her side bar show up as a bottom bar, so i went into that post and took out SOME of the *********** so that the side bar would show up where it belongs....on the side.... just wondering how long it's going to take her to see this post and call me some name heheheh

Do you like decorating outdoors as well? If so, are you conservative or do you go Clark W. Griswold (from Christmas Vacation)?

During my adult life I have always lived either in apartments or the back of a duplex and really haven't wanted to decorate the outsite, But when I was in college my entire floor decided we were all going to gift wrap our doors and we but ribbon's and bow's all over, it was pretty cool.

If you have a Christmas tree, what kind of lights do you prefer--multi-color, white, all one color? Do you like blinking, steady on or those chasing lights that do tricks?

I like Multi color lights myself that you can change from blinking, steady or chasing depending on my mood that night. At home this year we don't have any decorations up (read sis's blog for info on the Neice) but at work today we did the tree (I'm on the Holiday Commettee) and the lights on the tree are steady but the star on top is a blinking star. ... I'll take a picture and post here in a few days.

The Gypsy Day parade is great. But this is even better.

Instead of pounding down Main Street, the Northern State University Marching Wolves will be marching down Pennsylvania Avenue on Jan. 20. The group will be the only South Dakota representative in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.

At a news conference called to announce Northern's selection, the director of the Marching Wolves re-enacted a ritual he maintains at each rehearsal.

"What kind of day is it today?" Boyd Perkins asked the many band members who attended the gathering.

"It's a great day for marching band!" the students shouted.
"We have always known that the performing arts are a center of excellence at Northern State University,"said NSU president Patrick Schloss. "But now President Bush knows that."

Bush's office makes the final selections for the parade choices. "And believe me, it was based on merit," said Schloss, who donned a band hat for the announcement. Anyone who's ever seen the Marching Wolves perform "knows it was based on merit," he said.

The Marching Wolves consist of 125 to 130 students. About $65,000 is needed to pay their way to Washington.

The musicians will travel by bus. They are expected to leave Aberdeen Jan. 17 and return Jan. 21.

Making history: It will be the first time in the history of NSU that the Marching Wolves will participate in a presidential inaugural parade. The Northern marching band was organized in 1941.

Perkins said it will be a "huge honor" for the group to participate in the parade and witness history. "We're going to go there and we're going to make them proud," he said.

The Marching Wolves have performed at professional football games and regional marching band festivals. In 2002, the NSU Symphonic Band performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

But the Inaugural Parade is the most significant event "that any music ensemble at Northern has ever had an opportunity to participate in," said Alan LaFave, NSU's dean of fine arts and director of bands.

The Northern administrators have been told that the Marching Wolves are the only South Dakota entity of any kind - high school, college or otherwise - that will be taking part in the Inaugural Parade.

Northern was notified of the Marching Wolves' selection Friday. On Monday, the administrators determined that the trip was feasible.

Raising funds: A "very aggressive fund-raising" effort will be carried out in the the next two to three weeks to help pay for the trip, LaFave said. The marching band members will not be asked to provide funding, but NSU will ask them to help with fund-raising, Schloss said.

A lot of work has gone into making the honor possible, LaFave said. But the Marching Wolves were chosen to participate because of the quality of the students involved, LaFave said.

'Fired-up group': The Marching Wolves were chosen, Perkins said, "because we are a fired-up group." The enthusiasm and the pride of the students were the most important factors in the selection, he said.

It also helped that the Marching Wolves got an early start this year as part of their preparations for the Korean War Memorial dedication in Pierre on Sept. 18.

At Monday's news conference, Schloss conveyed special thanks to Gov. Mike Rounds, Sen. Tim Johnson, Rep. Stephanie Herseth and Sen.-elect John Thune "for their help in making this a reality."

Rounds was impressed by the Marching Wolves' performance in Pierre. The governor, the NSU administrators said, played a key role in getting the group considered for the Inaugural Parade.
